Are you diplomatic, self-conscious or just shy?

While studying for Handwriting Analysis Certification, I did a written analysis for a young woman at work. After reading it she declared, “This is so me, how can you come up with all this?”

I told her that I look for handwriting traits that are known to relate to particular personality characteristics. In learning these traits it helps to understand how the mind forms them and reveals them in our writing. An easily understood trait is the height of the t-bar and it’s relation to self-esteem or self-confidence.

The height at which the t-bar crosses the t-stem is a measure of the degree of self esteem we have for ourselves. The higher the t-bar the more we like ourselves, and generally we will do better in life than someone with a low self-esteem. The lower the t-bar, the lower our self image and the more likely we will live with, and stay in, unhappy or unhealthy situations. The person with a low t-bar has a fear of change.

Why risk change if you think you can’t do better? Okay, these traits are pretty clear, aren’t they? The height of the t-bar correlates to the level of self-esteem.

Others are not so obvious. You’ll find two traits shown in the m’s and n’s which may seem unrelated: remember, opposite strokes do not always mean opposite personality traits. (Low t-bars vs. high t-bars have opposite meanings in relation to self-esteem. However, the opposite strokes in the m– and n-humps do not have opposite meanings on first look.)

Self-consciousness is a fear of ridicule by others

Diplomacy is dealing with people so as not to offend them.

Self-consciousness is indicated by humps that grow progressively bigger in a stair-step fashion
as the letter is written toward the right. Diplomacy is written in lowering stair steps going to the
right. How do these relate? Directionally speaking, we know that anything in handwriting that is
going to the left is related to the self or to the past. Strokes going to the right represent the future or others.

As you look at these traits, realize that the self-conscious trait slopes down to the left. Diplomacy slopes down to the right. Diplomacy is the awareness of others. Self-consciousness is the OVER awareness of what others might be thinking. Thinking about these traits in this way allows you to understand that they carry essentially the same principle. The direction of the stroke, whether towards ourselves or toward others, is the difference.

Self-conscious people will frequently exhibit shyness in crowds, a reluctance to be in the spotlight,
or fear of talking to strangers. Traits such as “pride” and “sensitivity to criticism” will increase the
trait of self-consciousness. It seems heavy doses of alcoholic beverages reduce self-consciousness. (ha.ha.)

Remember that seeing a stroke just once, doesn’t make it 100% prevalant in the person’s character.
That is why it is a good idea to get lots of writing, before being 100% conclusive.

Someone that has the ability to be diplomatic might never show it if they are impulsive,
sarcastic, angry at women (or men), and over sensitive. These “fears and defenses” overpower the trait of diplomacy.

Recently, I was faxed the sample below from a Radio Station on which I was being

interviewed. This guy, Matt, has the most unusual t-bars and y-loops I saw that day. You may recall that the t-bar indicates how high someone’s goals tend to be. In Matt’s case, the t-bar doesn’t even touch the stem. It flies way above the letter t. This indicates a tendency to be a
“dreamer” and “oversell” his ideas.

As if Matt’s goals are not in touch with reality. Luckily, Matt also has heavy handwriting (passion),
long t-bars (enthusiasm) and the double cross star stroke on the letter t (persistence)…these traits will
force him to achieve many of the goals other people consider unrealistic.

Also, notice the long lower loops in the y‘s and g‘s…this indicates strong physical energy as well as
strong sex drive. I guess you could say this guy really believes he could get a date with
Pamela Anderson! Ha. He has diplomacy and a huge sexual appetite.

Matt is a sharp guy, quick minded, and underlines his name (self-reliance) and his entire writing
tilts uphill…meaning he’s optimistic. I would hire him or bet on him…even though he is a dreamer.

Q: What can be told from a person’s signature?
A: The signature represents what a person wants the world to see or what he wants to be, an image that may or may not be the same as the inner self. Because a signature contains only a few letters, it does not provide enough information for the analyst to make a complete and accurate evaluation.
Q: My signature is illegible. What does that mean?
A: It means people have a hard time reading your name. Seriously, illegible handwriting can mean a number of things. In general, an illegible signature reveals a desire to be seen but not known, keeping things private. You may want to keep your true identity hidden. It could also mean you are in a hurry. People who continually sign their name all day long often do so in a hurry and, therefore, don’t care what their signature looks like. Illegible handwriting in combination with other specific traits may indicate dishonesty, but there are a lot of variables.
Q: Why is my signature different than how I write everything else?
A: Because the signature is a badge to the world. It is a representation of what a person wants the world to see about himself. A signature that is different from the rest of his writing says he does not want to reveal everything about himself. There may be some aspect of his personality that he wants to hide, so he creates a new “person” by creating a signature with a different look.

Turning Negative Self-Talk into POWERFUL Self-Talk

I have found that when you ask questions to yourself, your unconscious mind gives you answers.
By doing this, you have to consciously ask yourself well-composed questions.

According to University of Queensland, with its study of how senses influence the sum of our experiences, the consistent feeding of the conscious mind affects the subconscious mind.

How can I feel more confident at work?
What could I do to help me feel unstoppable?

So even if you don’t know the answer, if you ask the question every day, your brain begins working on that. And one of the easy techniques, especially when you have a problem, let’s say you have a spousal problem or you don’t know if you should quit your job, you don’t know how to handle a conflict, if you simply release it to the universe, ask the question, “How do I improve my marriage?”

Take that question, and write it down where you will see it a few times a day. I’ve seen people put in on their screensaver on their computer, on a post-it note on the dashboard of their car, or on a piece of paper next to the toothpaste. The trick to place it somewhere you’ll see the question every day. You don’t have to work on the question or the solution. Just see it. Read it. Let it sit in your mind and percolate.

So here’re some examples, “How can I pay off my debt quickly? How can I double my income? What’s the fastest way I can attract $5000 dollars?”

Do you see how these questions are useful, and direct your mind in finding multiple answers?

They are well-crafted, linguistically-clever questions which pre-suppose that an answer is possible, and allow your brain to work on finding answers.

In my life, I simply pick one question on an index card, and I place it on my bathroom mirror. So, I read it at least twice a day.

Don’t put 20 questions on 20 index cards on your bathroom sink; you’ll overwhelm yourself. What happens if you have 20 stickers and notecards?

Your brain will begin to simply not see them anymore. You will stop reading them because your brain has a hard time handling 20 different bits of information at the exact same time. Just choose one question a day, and keep that question active until your brain has had time to come up with some creative solutions. I’ve seen people use the same question for one day, one month, even one year.

You can put one question in the kitchen and one at your office desk. I’m suggesting that you just don’t overdo it.

Here are some more questions which you might find useful…?

“How can I make a million dollars? How can I experience more freedom while earning money?”
Notice that these questions are very well-phrased. The structure of the question is the key.

The Structure of a Well–Crafted  Question

Don’t create a question which results in internal criticism.

Avoid questions like, “How come I’m fat?”

If I say “How come I’m fat”, what answers will I get? My brain will give me many reasons why I’m fat. What’s worse, the reasons I get from the sentence structure pre-suppose and confirm the belief that I am fat. Not empowering.

So why don’t you ask, “Why am I broke?”.  There is a reason this  in empowering question.

Your inner voice might respond with comments like “Because you’re lazy or … Because you’re untalented.” These are answers which are not empowering. Inner talk like this leads to depression and hesitation. In many cases, it begins to erode a person’s self-esteem. None of this is helping you find solutions to your financial problems. The focus becomes the problems, not the solutions.

The key to a good question is wording it in a specific language structure which creates a “solution frame”.

Again, don’t ask a question which results in negative answers. There is a time and place for looking at your life through a lens of authenticity and brutal honesty. Evaluating any bad habits and working to change them can be useful. The Magic Question technique is not that time. If you drink too much or don’t exercise, you probably already are aware of these non-optimal habits. Instead of dwelling on these short-term bad habits, you can reframe these issues into Magic Questions while focusing on solutions, not rehashing the problem.

The goal of this chapter is to easily recognize a well-crafted Magic Question, which only has good answers or great answers that empower you.

So what I’d like you to do is read the list of questions below and decide whether or not they are effective and useful questions.

Why do I keep spending all my money?
Why do I have no self-control?
Why can’t I get a raise?

Are these good questions? Yes? No?

Those are terrible questions!

In fact, you will notice all of the above questions start with ‘why’. In general, I avoid questions with ‘why’ and you should, too. While there might be a question that contains the word ‘why’, which will be empowering, in general you could replace the ‘why’ with ‘how’ and create an even better question.

For example, you could write down “Why am I so awesome?” This is not a bad question. It pre-supposes that you are awesome. Your brain looks in the now and in the past to find reasons why you are, indeed, so awesome. However, part of the inherent brilliance of a well-crafted Magic Question is for your brain to look in the now and the future. The future is where you can make changes and improve. I would coach this person to change the question to “What can I do today to be even more awesome?”

Granted, this is a silly question, which you might not find yourself using. But it illustrates the point quite well. As a general rule, avoid ‘why’ questions.
So let’s identify some “good” and “bad” questions.

Why am I always failing? Bad
Why can’t I get a raise? Bad
Why am I not taller? Bad
Why am I so fat? Bad
How can I easily pay off this debt? Good
How sexy do I look today? Good
How sexy is my husband? Good
How much fun are we having? Good
Why can’t I ever get ahead in life? Bad
Why is my relationship so miserable? Bad
Why don’t I have enough money? Bad
How can I find enough money? Good
How much fun will it be to be rich? Good
Now you get it. Do you see the difference?
What steps do I need to take to start my own business now? Good
How easy would it be to get a $10,000 raise in my income this year? Good
What are my best options for earning extra money? Good

Now, write some questions on a piece of paper and evaluate the quality of the questions. What area of your life did you decide to work on; money, career, love?
Ask a question related to your relationship. Write it down. Make it empowering. If you find a great question, make two or three variations on that same question.

Here are some examples:
• How do I get my ideas heard and adhered to?
• What can I do to transform the lives of my loved ones, and help them to grow and progress as individuals?
• How can I get more money by working less?
• How can I enrich the lives of others, while enriching my life at the same time?
• How can I excel in my career, and have the time, freedom, money and opportunities to see the world?
• How can I get to be the healthiest and fittest that I have ever been?
So, basically it’s just “How can I be the healthiest, how can I be the happiest, how can I have the most energy, what foods can I eat?”
• How can I be a money-magnet?
• What are the great opportunities and investments for me now?
Nice. What are the great opportunities?

Or what investments or great opportunities, either way you want to do that. Okay? So here is what I would do to wrap up this section to make it incredibly useful for you
One of the best few questions for feeling more confidence
and boosting one’s self esteem is as follow:

What’s attractive about me today?

Which part of my life is really working well?

What is really special and unique about me?

How beautiful is my spirit?

How much value to I bring to the life of others.

Your Title, Your Subtitle, and Why It Matters So Much when launching a new book.

Most of you have had a title of your book in mind for many, many years, and I want to tell you that I respect that… it might be a great title. But, it probably is not the right title for the short book I am suggesting you write for the ideal short book project as explained in my course the Perpetual Lead Machine.

But, before you get annoyed and defensive because your title is the perfect book title because all your friends love it, consider this article with a sober attitude. I’ve written 10 books. All were best sellers in their niche. Titles are important.

Challenge yourself with this simple question: what’s the purpose of your non-fiction book as it relates to your business?

I’ll give you a hint.

Attracting leads and clients.

Remember that a short non-fiction book is to be used to get people interested in a having a longer relationship with you. This is the meet you and first date of the business journey. You don’t tell your whole life story on a first date and you sure don’t want to in a short book. The fact is they don’t really care enough about you to care enough about your life story when they just met you. Save that for the 10th date.

Allow them to learn more from you, give them value, solve a problem. If you can help them solve one problem in under 60 pages… they will be a fan for life.

If you bore them with 300 pages of scientific data… they will never watch a video of yours, never open an email, and never buy anything from you again. A book they never read is about a “useless as tits on boarhog.” That is a Texas phrase my Dad used to day. You might have to look that one up if you are not from the Southern part of the USA.

The title should be clear, simple, and easy to understand by your perfect customer.

Most of the book authors I have consulting with come to me with a clever title that includes a conundrum, alliteration, or a rhyme. It may be clever to you. It may be clever to your wife and your best friend. But it might not be something anybody cares about or even gets during the three seconds they look at your book cover.

More importantly, it might not contain any of the key words or issues that your perfect customer is searching for in Google or Amazon. Don’t be cute. Be direct and offer help.

The ideal outcome of most non-fiction author’s books get the book into thousands of people hands to build a brand and build an email list of people who know like and trust the author.

This get’s lots of people interested in who they are and how they can help them. This builds a virtual relationship with reader and gives them a chance to enhance their speaking career, get coaching clients, fill seminar rooms, and offer other products.

If nobody reads, downloads, or buys your book in the first place, what’s the purpose of it? You failed.

That being said, please don’t be married to your current title.

The first book I helped somebody write, besides my own, was for my dear late friend, Phyllis Mattingly. All her life, she wanted to write a book called No Vaseline On My Teeth. I helped her write that first book by recording her and interviewing her in her living room in Colorado on cassette tapes and microphone.

Now for her, that’s a great title because it symbolized her message about living freely and always smiling. If that same book was published today, I would implore her not to keep that title because it would never be found by someone that didn’t already know who she was. Her goal was never to sell 100,000 copies. She wanted to print 500 copies and give them to her family and friend before she died. I helped her achieve that goal. In her case, I did not fight her over the title. Unless you are planning on dying next year… I am going to fight you over your cute but meaningless title.

Unless you’re a celebrity, an ex-president, or a rock-star… don’t use a clever ambiguous cute title.

You need to find something that matches what they’re searching in the search engines.

If you’re attached and married to your title, at least promise me this: the subtitle will be filled with words people are actually looking for. The process I am suggesting below is to find the “working title”. Once you have the working title, then you can brainstorm other words that have the same meaning and intention that won’t seem so generic.

For example. I wrote a book about using your internal self-talk to help you achieve goals faster. The words goals, faster, or self-talk is not in the title or subtitle. But, the intention is filled in the final title “The Magic Question. How to get what you want in half the time.”

People want the outcome of getting their goals in half the time. The methodology is the features and not the benefit. The word magic question elicits the emotion of curiosity. “What is the question.” You have to buy the book to find out.

Let’s Pick a Title That Gets People Stop and Take Notice

There is a methodology to actually finding out what people are looking for and develop a “working title”.

You always want to name your articles, videos, and book titles that same thing people are already looking for. You want to solve a problem and get people stop and take notice.

Search engines and keyword research tools will be your best friend in this phase.

Google.com has a free search term keyword called “Google Search Term Keyword Tool.” There are other services you can pay for, keyword spy, keyword domination; there are lots of paid services. Unless you’re a professional internet marketer, normally there are two easy things you can do.

First of all, put your keyword into your Google Adwords account, which is the free keyword tool, and see what people are looking for. In most cases, it will be very simple, how to garden, how to improve your law practice. Whatever the major benefit of your book is, type that in.

If you’re on a desktop computer search a phrase or word… watch what happens.

Google will show you a list of instant suggestions to make your search term faster. For example, if you type in the word “Bart Baggett” in your key term, it’ll also drop down other Bart Baggett words people have searched. Bart Baggett reviews, Bart Baggett credentials, Bart Baggett book, and Bart Baggett handwriting. I had no idea that people were searching Bart Baggett credentials!

Well, now that I know, I made a video and named it that exact title. That particular terminology was what they were searching for three years ago… so I created a page to help people get what they are looking for. So this tool helps you to figure out what your future readers are looking for. Now, I guess they are looking for my Ted talk or my signature. Why? LOL

Obviously if they’re searching for Bart Baggett, they’re going to find it, because that’s a unique name and there are not 500 other people with that name fighting for the #1 spot in google.

That’s not the audience I want to attract with a new book I am about to publish. I don’t need people who already know me and like me to find me quicker. They already find me quickly.

I want people that have no idea who I am to find my book and be thrilled to have discovered “this guy who teaches exactly what I needed to know.”

This article is part of three part article about, “How to Write a Book in Seven Days,” and it will be filled with keywords like: how to write a book, how to market a book, how to successfully write a book fast, how to publish a book. I wrote a book with more content called “How to Write a Book in 9.5 Hours”. Is there any confusion of what you are going to read about in that book? Nope. The only criticism I received was “That’s impossible. You are an idiot.” Funny. But, most of my best selling books I transcribed from speeches and wrapped it all up in less than 9.5 hours of my personal time. So, who is the idiot now user name: firstimeauthor1944?

Then when people do a search for how to write a book, this book will pop up in the search engines in Amazon.com, or my own websites, from a search of those keywords.

So that is the easiest way to title and subtitle your book is use a fill in the blank formula to start.

I highly recommend that if you’re writing a non-fiction book, do a subtitle with the word phrase

How _______ ______ in ____ days or less.

How to overcome sugar cravings in 3 days or less

How to lose ten pounds in 30 days or less.

How to master dreamweaver in 30 days or less.

How to (verb) (problem) in (short time frame).

How solve your legal problems in five days.

How to get a divorce without losing your shirt.

How to easily teach your kids to read without murdering your own child.

You get the point.

Use Google search terms and the automated suggested terms as your key to brainstorming ideas for the working title. The working title might be the final title.. just wait until you get the subtitle.

You might find the How to title becomes the subtitle.

Here are two good ones from friends of mine:

Title: Talking to Crazy

Subtitle: How to deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your life.

Title The Bulletproof Diet

Subtitle: Lose up to a pound a day, reclaim your energy and focus, upgrade your life. *

*This is a “how to lose” title with the words how to eliminated. It works.

Find the big problem and include that word or phrase in the working title.

Part Two: subtitle

Part two is choosing the best phrase for the subtitle. You should have three to four phrases that you’re in love with and here’s how you’re going to choose the best one..: you’re going to let the market figure it out.

One of the best books that I’ve read is by a writer who is purely a writer, he just writes books and he’s brilliant at it. His name is Timothy Ferriss, he wrote a book called The Four Hour Work Week, followed up by a book called The Four Hour Body.

Both are good books, by the way, very well researched, very thick, and very dense. He tested the title, Four Hour Work Week, among dozens of other titles and the research indicated that Four Hour Work Week was what people were interested in, that is the one that stopped people in their tracks and say, “Wow! A four hour work week? I love it.”

So do what Timothy Ferriss did, do what I do, and test all your titles before you spend $300 getting a book cover made. That being said, the book that you’re reading right now, we will test the title and that may take another seven days on top of the seven days it took to write it. So while we’re formatting it and while we’re getting it ready for Kindle, I’ll run a test to figure out which of the variations of How to Write a Book in Seven Days, How to Write a Book Over the Weekend, How to Write a Book Fast, How to Write a Book Quickly, How to Write Your First Book with No Headache — whatever title it will be, you can guarantee that we will have tested that title and it will be the one that the most people care about because I am writing the book to attract people that want to write a book. Just like you’re writing a book to attract people about your topic.

If It’s good enough for Tim Ferris, It’s good enough for you and me.

You’re not going to guess, you’re not going to survey your friends and your relatives and your mother. They are not someone who can be objective. You need people who don’t know you, don’t care about you, and don’t give a damn about anything except what’s in it for them… in other words…people searching on google or Youtube.com

What you’re going to do is take your credit card, you’re going to get a Google Adwords account and spend some money on testing.

You are going to create 10 different ads with 5 different titles and 5 different subtitles in the copy. Use the same image for each ad. The image doesn’t matter. Just use the same image so that the words are the variable.

Then, you create 10 different website pages with the exact title and a short article on that page. (The same short article for each title). Just take a chapter from your book.

If you want to make your money back, put an optin form on the page with this message:

“This book is being released next month, please enter your name and email to be on the early release free preview list.” You’re not even going to care whether they put their email in.

All you are doing is looking at clicks. The results will blow your mind.

Here is a mock-up of what a test would have looked like if I had run traffic to various titles for the article you are reading. This is a mockup, the numbers are not authentic.

The column called CTR. Click Through Ratio indicates the winner. That is the best title or headline. I circled it in red. These are real results, I just cropped them from a different campaign for this example.

Run this all ten of these ads in one Google Adwords group or Facebook “ad set” in one campaign for one week. You can also use Facebook if you want to use an image and have more space for longer subtitle or description. The process of testing is the same for both platforms. Facebook might get you better results since they are NOT looking for your key word, they are getting your ad thrown at them and they might or might not find it interesting. Set your budget for $10 per day.

All you care about it the click percentage that is the winner. CTR, Click through ratio. The total number of clicks could be misleading if you got more views. You can confirm this by looking at the traffic on the ten different article pages with different titles, assuming you installed a tracking service like google analytics before you started this campaign.

You will be shocked to find that the one that you thought was the least interesting is the best, or the one that you thought was the best, is number two. Let the market decide.

So it doesn’t even matter what people do when they get to the landing page, you’re going to use Google Adwords to test your top five or six titles and use the one that people are most compelled to click and read more about. Do not use a different image for each ad… this will ruin your test data.

So, that’s it! In summary, figure out your title, go to Google Adwords and keyword search tool, look what Google suggests as alternatives, and then test, test, test.

The Happiness Radar… Reprogram Your Life Through Better Questions

The Happiness Radar

Here is the perfect metaphor for the phenomenon of how your brain find answers when you ask the right questions… The Happiness Radar.

Imagine your brain as a control tower on a battleship in the middle of the ocean. Instead of one radar system, you have dozens. You have the happiness radar, the misery radar, the problem radar, the failure radar, the beauty radar, the peace radar, the self-critical radar, the ‘I hate the president radar’, the ‘the world is going to end radar’, etc.

You can choose which radar you want to turn on and which ones you want to turn off.

The happiness radar is simple to activate. Just write the following words on an index card and read it a few times a day:

“What is another reason to be happy now?”

While this sentence seems simple, it is linguistically elegant because it pre-supposed that there was already another reason to be happy. (Now your brain is finding two things, not just one.) And, it has an embedded command to be happy right now; now… not in the future. You could create a slight variation of this sentence like this…

“How many things can I find to be happy about now?”

“How many reasons can I discover to be incredibly happy?”

“Scan the world for reasons to be happy.”

“Show me the many reasons that it’s okay to be joyous right now.”

Asking the question is part one. Finding the answers it part two. You must allocate 60 seconds a day to answer this question 5-12 times a day, every day. This mental process must become a habit. You will be re-wiring your brain and creating new, stronger, neural pathways each time to answer these questions.

Do this every day for 21 days… you will be happier.

 

It’s like a Thermostat inside your Brain.

brainthermostatWhatever your life looks like today is due to your thermostat being set there.

So what we have to do is change the thermostat. You have to actually program a new thermostat at a different vibrational frequency, so that currently you are hot! Oh my God, I’m so hot! I have to take some action to get cool! You’re going to be so uncomfortable in the current situation, you’ll take action. If you’re too comfortable, you get lazy.

Author John Assaraf used this metaphor of a thermostat, which is very interesting.

He says, “For example, any liquid-cooled car engine has a small device called the thermostat that sits between the engine and the radiator. The thermostat in most cars is about two inches (five cm) in diameter. Its job is to block the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has warmed up. When the engine is cold, no coolant flows through the engine. Once the engine reaches its set temperature (generally about 200 degrees F, 95 degrees C), the thermostat opens. By letting the engine warm up as quickly as possible, the thermostat reduces engine wear, deposits, and emissions. It’s really amazing and, if you could see how does its work, it’s like magic!”

Now, I don’t want to force you to be uncomfortable, but I’m suggesting that if you take small steps to change your comfort level, so that you’re not fully comfortable, it’ll motivate you to make some changes…because you’ve got to take a few more actions.

I didn’t have to get up and go the gym this morning, I could have slept another 30, 40 minutes, but it’s important to me to be fit. In fact, I’m uncomfortable when I look fat.

I know a woman who is beautiful and thin, and she perceives herself as fat when the whole world sees her as thin.

Literally, two pounds makes her really uncomfortable, eight pounds makes her sick. Eight pounds is like no, no, no, not eating that! Nope!

She is motivated out of her own uncomfortable-ness. She gets highly uncomfortable about four pounds of weight.

I see people who weigh 400 pounds. In their case, four pounds is irrelevant. They can’t be comfortable at that weight. But, this woman’s four pounds makes her so uncomfortable, she takes massive action.

So the question is: how do you change it? You change it through habitual thinking processes. You change it through changing your internal dialogue. You change it through habits. You change it through increasing your ability to confront reality.

The magic question has been the single-most effective technique for changing the direction of my thoughts and attracting prosperity that I’ve ever discovered. If you look in the mirror and don’t like what you see… change your questions first and quiet any negative voices which contain judgment. Tell them to shut up, and turn all your internal voices into question generators.

As discussed in the book The Magic Question, here are a few questions you can write on a brightly colored index card and set your “mind in the direction” of solving them:

What can I eat today that is nutritious?
How much fun will it be to exercise today?
How hot will I look when I get firm and ripped?

One of the best few questions for feeling more confidence
and boosting one’s self esteem is as follow:

What’s attractive about me today?

Which part of my life is really working well?

What is really special and unique about me?

How beautiful is my spirit?

How much value to I bring to the life of others.

Toxic Vocabulary

I remember my dad teaching me the power of
language at a very young age. Not only did my dad understand that specific words affect our mental pictures, but he understood words are a powerful programming factor in lifelong success.

One particularly interesting event occurred when
I was eight. As a kid, I was always climbing trees,
poles, and literally hanging around upside down
from the rafters of our lake house. So, it came as
no surprise to my dad to find me at the top of a
30-foot tree, swinging back and forth. My little
eight-year-old brain didn’t realize the tree could
break or I could get hurt. I just thought it was fun
to be up so high.

My older cousin, Tammy, was also in the same
tree. She was hanging on the first big limb, about
ten feet below me. Tammy’s mother also noticed
us at the exact same time my dad did. About that
time a huge gust of wind came over the tree. I could
hear the leaves start to rattle and the tree begin to
sway. I remember my dad’s voice over the wind
yell, “Bart, Hold on tightly.” So I did. The next thing
I know, I heard Tammy screaming at the top of
her lungs, laying flat on the ground. She had fallen
out of the tree.

I scampered down the tree to safety. My dad later
told me why she fell and I did not. Apparently,
Tammy’s mother was not as an astute student of
language as my father. When Tammy’s mother felt
the gust of wind, she yelled out, “Tammy, don’t fall!”
And Tammy did… fall.

My dad then explained to me that the mind has a
very difficult time processing a negative image. In
fact, people who rely on internal pictures cannot
see a negative at all. In order for Tammy to process
the command of not falling, her nine-year-old brain
had to first imagine falling, then try to tell the brain
not to do what it just imagined. Whereas, my
eight-year-old brain instantly had an internal image
of me hanging on tightly.

This is why people who try to stop smoking struggle
with the ct of stopping smoking. They are running
pictures all day of themselves smoking. Smokers are
rarely taught to see themselves breathing fresh air
and feeling great. The language itself becomes one
barrier to success.

This concept is especially useful when you are
attempting to break a habit or set a goal. You can’t
visualize not doing something. The only way to
properly visualize not doing something is to actually
find a word for what you want to do and visualize
that. For example, when I was thirteen years old, I
played for my junior high school football team. I
tried so hard to be good, but I just couldn’t get it
together at that age. I remember hearing the words
run through my head as I was running out for a
pass, “Don’t drop it!” Naturally, I dropped the ball.

My coaches were not skilled enough to teach us
proper “self-talk.” They just thought some kids could
catch and others couldn’t. I’ll never make it pro, but I’m
now a pretty good Sunday afternoon football player,
because all my internal dialogue is positive and
encourages me to win. I wish my dad had coached me
playing football instead of just climbing trees. I might
have had a longer football career.

Here is a very easy demonstration to teach your kids
and your friends the power of a toxic vocabulary.
Ask them to hold a pen or pencil. Hand it to them.
Now, follow my instructions carefully. Say to them,
“Okay, try to drop the pencil.” Observe what they do.

Most people release their hands and watch the pencil
hit the floor. You respond, “You weren’t paying
attention. I said TRY to drop the pencil. Now please
do it again.” Most people then pick up the pencil and
pretend to be in excruciating pain while their hand tries
but fails to drop the pencil.

The point is made.

If you tell your brain you will “give it a try,” you are
actually telling your brain to fail. I have a “no try” rule in
my house and with everyone I interact with. Either
people will do it or they won’t. Either they will be at
the party or they won’t. I’m brutal when people
attempt to lie to me by using the word try. Do they
think I don’t know they are really telegraphing to the
world they have no intention of doing it but they want
me to give them brownie points for pretended effort?

You will never hear the words “I’ll try” come out of
my mouth unless I’m teaching this concept in a seminar.
If you “try” and do something, your unconscious mind
has permission not to succeed. If I truly can’t make a
decision I will tell the truth. “Sorry John. I’m not sure
if I will be at your party or not. I’ve got an outstanding
commitment. If that falls through, I will be here.
Otherwise, I will not. Thanks for the invite.”

People respect honesty. So remove the word “try”
from your vocabulary. My dad also told me that
psychologists claim it takes seventeen positive
statements to offset one negative statement. I have
no idea if it is true, but the logic holds true. It might
take up to seventeen compliments to offset the
emotional damage of one harsh criticism.

These are concepts that are especially useful when
raising children. Ask yourself how many compliments
you give yourself daily versus how many criticisms.
Heck, I know you are talking to yourself all day long.
We all have internal voices that give us direction.

So, are you giving yourself the 17:1 ratio or are you
shortchanging yourself with toxic self-talk like, “I suck.
I’m fat. Nobody will like me. I’ll try this diet. I’m not
good enough. I’m so stupid. I’m broke, etc. etc.”

If our parents can set a lifetime of programming with
one wrong statement, imagine the kind of programming
you are doing on a daily basis with your own internal
dialogue. Here is a list of Toxic Vocabulary words.
Notice when you or other people use them.

But – negates any words that are stated before it.
If – presupposes that you may not.
Would have – past tense that draws attention to
things that didn’t actually happen.
Should have – past tense that draws attention to
things that didn’t actually happen (and implies guilt.)
Could have – past tense that draws attention to
things that didn’t actually happen but the person
tries to take credit as if it did happen.
Try – presupposes failure.
Might – It does nothing definite. It leaves options
for your listener.
Can’t / Don’t – These words force the listener
to focus on exactly the opposite of what you
want. This is a classic mistake that parents and
coaches make without knowing the damage of
this linguistic error.

Examples:

Toxic phrase: “Don’t drop the ball!”
Likely result: Drops the ball
Better language:
“Catch the ball!”

Toxic phrase: “You shouldn’t watch so
much television.”
Likely result: Watches more television.
Better language: “I read too much television
makes people stupid. You might find yourself turning
that TV off and picking up one of those books more
often!”

Exercise: Take a moment to write down
all the phrases you use on a daily basis or any Toxic
self-talk that you have noticed yourself using. Write
these phrases down so you will begin to catch yourself
as they occur and change them.

When one is feeling self-conscious, one becomes aware of even the smallest of one’s own actions. Such awareness can impair one’s ability to perform complex actions. For example, a piano player may “choke,” lose confidence, and even lose the ability to perform the moment they notice the audience. As self-consciousness fades one may regain the ability to “lose one’s self.” A person especially prone to self-consciousness may be labeled shy or introverted.

Why Won’t My Love Commit to Me? (5 clues revealed through handwriting everyone should see)

When the relationship first began it felt like both of you had wings on your feet and that together you could soar, hand in hand to greater heights of intimacy.

However, a number of months, even years have now passed and now the relationship is going nowhere. You may even be living together, but still you are missing that sense of initiation, that comes with truly knowing that the person is committed heart and soul to being with you and only you. Suddenly, you feel like you are wearing cement shoes.

You couldn’t take a step forward in this relationship, even if you tried, because every time you bring the subject up, your partner acts like a victim of the Spanish Inquisition or ignores the issue completely. Your partner may even behave as if just about anything in the world is more important, than discussing a future with you.

Sneaking a peek at your partner’s handwriting might give you some clues as why he or she might be reluctant to head down the aisle.

If you haven’t known the person a long time, it might simply be that he or she is just being very cautious. Caution in handwriting is often represented as a long dash that streaks out from the end of a lower case e or c. These little strokes forward almost resemble “roadblocks” that give the writer time to pause and assess the situation before he or she makes a move.

If your partner displays this trait (caution), then there is a chance that he or she is probably just cautious in all aspects of her life and the hold-up may not be something personal to do with you. The person may just need time to process and analyze their feelings than others. Usually, this is because they have been hurt before.

It could also be that your partner is just putting off the inevitable”, the same way he or she puts off doing the dishes, paying the bills and other matters. A procrastinator will always put off ’til tomorrow what can be done today or what should have been done six months ago (and that includes marriage.) You know you’re with a procrastinator if he or she has been talking about marriage for the past year, and there’s still been no exchange of rings. Or maybe, you’ve moved into together and the two of you seem to be living in a kind of blissful purgatory that doesn’t include any long-range plans. Procrastinators tend to cross their t-bars on the far left. It is like even the act of crossing their t’s is an afterthought.

Then there are those lovers that seem to live in an alternative universe. Every attempt to communicate with him or her seems to “go in one ear and out the other.” This type of lover can also seem very forgetful or like they have attention deficit disorder. This person may actually be lacking the tenacity it takes to follow through to a relationship that is only parted by death, as they are always “living in the moment” and “loving the one they are with.” This kind of person tends to lack a vision of the future and often tends to compress their writing into the middle zone (also known as the mundane zone) of their writing. For instance the tops of their t’s will not rise much higher than the tops of their n’s as below.

Another potential cause of your partner’s reluctance to commit to you is that he or she is not being honest with you. It is possible that he or she is keeping a big secret, like an affair. Indicators of secrecy are loops that look like circle within circles on the left-hand side of an o or a c:

It is also possible that he or she might be lying to him or herself about whether or not he or she actually does want to be with you. This kind of self-deceit is often caused by a reluctance to hurt the other person or a great disappointment that he or she can’t face with regards to the relationship. It is also possible, in this case that your partner is just staying out of you with habit and fears change. People who are lying to themselves or not facing the truth of a situation also tend to have o’s and c’s that contain loops within loops:

Examining your own handwriting for the above traits might also help you discover why you have chosen to stay with an emotionally unavailable person.
